GTA 6 Set For Exclusive Release On Next-Gen Consoles, PC Version Delayed At Launch

Rockstar Games has officially announced that the eagerly anticipated “Grand Theft Auto VI” will initially be available exclusively on next-generation consoles, specifically the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, leaving PC gamers without a version at launch. This revelation came through a press release on December 4, following an early, unplanned release of the GTA 6 trailer due to a leak. The studio also confirmed that the game would not be compatible with older consoles like the PS4 or Xbox One, a decision that became apparent post the trailer release.

In a move that may disappoint PC gaming enthusiasts, Rockstar is maintaining its historical approach of releasing new entries in the GTA series on consoles first, with PC versions following later. Sam Houser, the co-founder of Rockstar Games, expressed his excitement about the game in a press release, stating, “Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences. We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere.”

This strategy is not new for Rockstar Games, as seen with previous titles. “Grand Theft Auto IV” and “GTA V,” released in 2008 and 2013 respectively, were initially launched on PS3 and Xbox 360, with their PC versions arriving later. While GTA IV’s PC version was released within the same year, GTA V’s PC gamers had to wait nearly two years for their version. A similar pattern was observed with “Red Dead Redemption II,” which took a year to arrive on PC after its console release.

As fans anticipate the launch of GTA 6, set in a Vice City-inspired locale, in 2025, there is hope that the wait for the PC version will not be as prolonged as in previous instances. However, given Rockstar’s track record, the likelihood of an early announcement for the PC port remains uncertain.
