Google has unveiled its Pixel 11 smartphone lineup, putting a stronger focus on artificial intelligence, camera performance and durability as competition in the premium smartphone market intensifies.
Announced at the Made by Google 2026 event on August 12, the lineup includes the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL. Google is positioning the devices as its most personal Pixel phones yet, with the new Tensor G6 processor and Gemini Nano powering more proactive on-device AI features.
Refined Design and Major Camera Upgrades
All three phones feature redesigned camera bars covered in edge-to-edge glass. The standard Pixel 11 gets a camera bar that is more than 40% thinner than the previous generation, allowing the phone to sit flatter and feel less bulky when paired with a Made by Google case.
The Pixel 11 Pro and Pro XL feature Google’s brightest Super Actua displays, reaching up to 3,600 nits at peak brightness. A new anti-scratch coating is claimed to provide more than twice the scratch resistance of the previous generation, while the drop-resistant construction continues the durability approach introduced with the Pixel 9 family.
The Pixel 11 is available in Frost, Hibiscus, Pistachio and Obsidian. The Pro models come in Canyon, Fog, Olive and matte Obsidian.
Camera improvements are another major focus. The Pixel 11 features a larger 48-megapixel main sensor with 56% greater light sensitivity, alongside a 5x telephoto camera capable of up to 30x Super Zoom with Tensor G6 assistance.
The Pro models add a new main sensor and a redesigned 48-megapixel telephoto sensor with 30% greater light sensitivity. Portrait Mode now works at 5x magnification, while Pro Zoom reaches up to 120x.
Google says Night Sight can now capture images up to 4.5 times faster while maintaining image quality, thanks in part to an upgraded Image Signal Processor inside Tensor G6.
New camera software includes Magic Capture, which analyzes short video clips to identify strong frames and apply subtle edits. Camera Looks also gives users additional ways to achieve more natural or personalized image styles.
Tensor G6 Brings AI Further Onto the Device
Google says Tensor G6 delivers 25% faster web browsing and 15% faster app launches than the previous generation. The chip is also designed to deliver up to 3.5 times faster on-device AI processing while using up to 3.5 times less energy.
That performance is paired with the latest Gemini Nano model, enabling a wider range of AI features without relying as heavily on cloud processing.
The Pro models introduce HiLight, a system of colored LEDs surrounding the camera flash. When the phone is placed face down, the lights can indicate Gemini activity, including listening, processing and responding. Users can also assign colors to calls from selected contacts, with Google planning additional notification capabilities.
Security receives an upgrade through Google’s Titan M3 security chip and support for post-quantum cryptography during secure boot. The company is also emphasizing privacy protections around its AI features.
All three Pixel 11 models start with 256GB of storage. Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro support 25W Qi2.2 wireless charging, while Google says the Pixel 11 Pro XL can provide up to 15 hours of battery life after a 15-minute charge.
The Pixel 11 starts at $899, followed by the Pixel 11 Pro at $1,099 and the Pixel 11 Pro XL at $1,299. Pre-orders begin August 12, with retail availability scheduled for August 20 through the Google Store and retail partners.
Google is also promising seven years of operating system, security and Pixel Drop updates for the lineup. Pro buyers receive six months of Google AI Pro, including higher Gemini usage limits, 5TB of storage and Google Health Premium.
Beyond smartphones, Google introduced the thinner Pixel 11 Pro Fold, starting at $1,899, along with the Pixel Watch 5 and the company’s first Pixel Tag tracker. The Pixel Tag starts at $29 or $99 for a four-pack and integrates with Android’s Find Hub network.
Google also announced new Gemini capabilities across its ecosystem, including expanded Live Transcribe support for American Sign Language, a new Rambler voice input mode designed to better understand natural speech, and deeper Circle to Search integration within the camera.
The Pixel 11 arrives as smartphone makers face higher component costs and a rapidly intensifying race to build AI deeper into everyday devices. Google’s strategy is to combine stronger cameras, longer software support and increasingly proactive Gemini features rather than treating AI as a standalone add-on.
